I'm glad to hear you are alive and well. From what I've been told, so are Rinwell and Shionne. I'll write them shortly after you and hopefully find them in good health.
How have you been faring in Tikal? I've heard it's full of warriors, I would imagine you are training even harder in such an atmosphere. Be careful not to injure yourself, as Shionne and I aren't there to patch you up as usual.
Kiichpan is very beautiful. It reminds me of Menancia in a way. You should visit when you have the chance.
[its not even been that long since you broke his face but RING RING except the medallion doesn't ring because it is rude, Lloyd's voice just comes out of it.]
Hey, Law?
[Long pause. Ugh. Awkward.]
Sorry I called you short and said your dad eats rocks.
( just groaning because he is trying to have a lie down after getting his shit rocked and this necklace won't stop talking to him... oh but it's lloyd so that's fine )
Hey, Lloyd... it's fine, sorry I said you were stupid and broke your nose again. For the hundredth time.
[ Rinwell hadn't expected to get split up when they got to Coba. But the Salamanders had concerns about her burns (something something relic magic, which she would have paid more attention to if everything wasn't Happening So Much), and the Jaguars were determined to take care of their own Thank You Very Much.
Very reluctantly, she'd let Law go, with a promise to let him know when she got to the other city, and found anyone they knew.
Hey! Did you get to Tikal okay? I should be in Coatapec tomorrow morning, or afternoon? There's a lot of walking, and they're not sure about the weather.
Those Jaguars better be taking care of you like they promised. Let me know when you're
[ safe? are they safe? should they be calling this place home now? she doesn't want to.. ]
[Losing almost a whole week kinda of blows??? Like it's not really gone but it sure is blurry and hazy like all the zombie burnt out stuff didn't actually happen. And trying to wort though it is hard, so he'll just call!
So HELLO LAW, there is the sound of like ceramic pieces scraping the floor?? Or something? Because look, he has to clean up the shit he broke and figured he might as well call at the same time.]
( he's been Conscious for a minute, but Up is a different story and frankly for once he just kind of doesn't want to be. it's fine. NOBODY WAS COMING TO YOGA CLASS ANYWAY )
Heeeeyyy... yeah, I'm good. I changed back, uh. At some point while I was asleep. How about you? Are you okay? Did you get healed up? Your hand...
( probably shouldn't say "smelled bad" so he just leaves it at that )
( it's gonna have to be like a week after otherwise she's gonna be waiting awhile for a reply because he is unconscious almost the whole time BUT AFTER THAT... )
i'm i've been better but i'm ok yeah and i think not dead? inside or out. maybe. still not sold on that one honestly
(for all she knows, law is in tikal. why would she see him, out of all people, when she steps into the salamander's lounge to find silco - review for the supplies, see if she needs another coba trip, anything that she can do to take her mind off her relentlessness.
instead, the unexpected. when her eyes find his face, her smile is as bright as it could possibly be, but then, they take in the rest of his condition. she might have moved even faster than she knew was possible to kneel in front of him, eyes wide in concern.)
[ whoops! yeah, he might have neglected to mention that. might have neglected to mention that on purpose, mostly out of a need not to worry anyone. he's already worried and upset enough people, you know? and he'd kind of hoped, maybe, he could recover enough to be able to walk again, or at least sit upright without being confined to a bed, but that hasn't been the case at all. he can barely move a muscle without it hurting, the best he can do is how he is when Jinx finds him: propped up somewhat, his journal and a pen laying nearby and his medallion around his neck, all the social interaction he's going to be getting for. awhile.
his face is perfectly fine, but he isn't exactly smiling back—he looks surprised to see her, then immediately remorseful, grimacing as she rushes over. he's... a mess. his left arm bandaged from shoulder to chest and completely immobilized, the rest of him wrapped up almost as much, black and blue all over. ]
I, u-uh... you kinda weren't supposed to see this...
[ He's been busy. Very, very busy. It's safe to say he hasn't been checking his journal over the past week as much as he ought to have been, but that's fine because he doesn't need it to talk to a few couriers who had traveled from Tikal, to Coba, and finally to Kiichpan. It didn't take much convincing to send something back with them, and with strict instructions to deliver it to one Law of the Jaguars.
Only Gladio didn't know that Law wasn't in Tikal at the moment of sending it. The couriers arrived in Tikal on the 28th, and upon learning that not only was the young Jaguar not there but he'd also been injured in Coatepec, arranged for another courier to finish the final leg of the journey. So, the delivery itself is late. Late, but intact. It's the Salamanders who take it at the door of the lodge. The Salamanders who carefully open its contents so Law wouldn't have to strain himself. The Salamanders who carefully arrange the contents at his bedside table in the "clinic" while his father was conked out in the chair beside him.
At the bottom of the pile sits a pair of matching squares of fabric in a rich purple, each one seeming to be embroidered with some sort of animal in gold - wolves. Sitting on top of that? A wristband carefully woven from soft strips of leather, and a bundle of dried meat wrapped in parchment. And nestled next to that? The real piece de la resistance?
A single BIG cup noodle, and stuck to the lid is a note in Gladio's flowing handwriting. ]
Hey, kiddo
I bothered Prompto for some deets about the date you two had cuz I was curious and wanted to make sure things went okay. He mentioned the chickens, and I also remembered something about how you said they'd wind up in your house sometimes? So, the cloth is something I asked a friend of mine here in Kiichpan to make. They're just curtains, but they should deter them a little if you're trying to sleep and also keep the sun out of your eyes. Trust me, I know how much of a pain it is to try and sleep in when nature tries to say "no." Sometimes you have to treat yourself and get an extra hour of beauty sleep, you know? Anyway, I couldn't remember what an alpaca was called when I put in the request for this, so I hope wolves work just as well. They even put a little snap button so they stay shut - I still can't believe they use gold so freely here. That stuff cost a fortune back home in Insomnia.
We got the pelt back too pretty recently along with some extra leather that the guy had to trim off. I found another person and had 'em turn it into the bracelet I sent along, and Iggy seasoned some of the meat that we kept and turned into jerky. It's a little gamey, but I think it's pretty good. Anyway, next time you come over you have to try the blanket out. Even with the humidity and heat early in the mornings on some days it's actually really nice? And at night it's perfect to keep the chill away and it's big enough to cover all four of us at once and then some.
Third... I went to that dragon statue in Coba. Prompto said if you left an offering it might leave you something in return, but I'll be honest: it sounded a little too good to be true and I didn't wanna get my hopes up by asking for something I really missed, so... I asked for this to test the waters. Went back the next day and bam - an entire six pack was waiting. I'm down to four now (gonna be three probably come the 2nd), but I thought you might wanna try the big ones.
Protip: Try cracking an egg into it like you did with those burgers.
I hope this gets to Tikal in one piece, so if it doesn't? Holler at me and I'll chew the couriers out for swiping or feeding whatever was missing to some monster out there.
- Gladio
P.S. Whenever you decide on getting that tat, lemme know. I wanna be there for it! P.P.S. I think I'm gonna ask the dragon for my grill next time I'm in the area. Or maybe my books. Thoughts? Hoping he might take pity on the future birthday boy ;)
[ Law is dozing when they bring it in. not quite asleep, but drifting sleepily in and out, barely cognizant of anything going on in the room. he's been here a few days by now, long enough that he's out of the danger zone. lived through the first 24, 48 hours, so he should be good to go, right? yeah, except that means he's stuck with the sucky and unfortunate task of recovering, and it's pretty much hell. luckily he's on basically a constant regimen of whatever that nasty, disgusting potion is they keep giving him, but... yeah. bad. he doesn't really come around when they open up his package and set it out for him, but funnily enough its the BIG CUP that does it. the nose knows, maybe? his chin lifts and he zeroes right in on the thing, brow furrowing as he takes in all the gifts. ]
What...?
[ A package came by courier for you, one of the Salamanders explains, and gestures to everything on the table as if he hadn't noticed. A get-well gift, perhaps?
that's... kind of alarming, there aren't many people who know what happened, are there? and they wouldn't really send him gifts when they could just—oh. oh, wait... yeah, the cup noodles are a dead giveaway. after making a pathetic reach for the letter, the nice Salamander hands it over to him and then leaves him to read it in peace, which fortunately even in his addled state he's able to do just fine. this... doesn't read like someone who knows he's injured, it just reads like... a thoughtful gift (to Tikal, where he isn't... oh, man). that's touching enough as it is, but it's the very bottom of the letter that makes his breath catch in his chest. birthday. birthday?!?! oh, no.
Law picks up his medallion from around his neck without consideration for what half-out-of-it shit he sounds like; this is important. ]
[ It's late morning barely two days after Zephyr's call to those closest to Law who'd been furthest away from Coatepec when there's a knock on the door to Law's room in the Lodge. A head sticks round, one of the junior healers in the Salamanders, quietly announcing the arrival of two visitors - or rather, to query if Law is up for two.
They're tired visitors, honestly, their spiracorn ride having charged into town less than an hour ago. But here they are anyway; rest could wait, their friend could not.
Rinwell for her part is absent one owl (safe and nearby but not permitted within the healing sanctuary) and distinctly wide eyed with worry as she and Alphen are ushered in to see their friend; she lets the masked man lead the way, pausing only to take a breath before following him in, preparing herself for the worst that Zephyr warned her about.
And if her knuckles turn white as she holds tight to her cloak, so that her hands don't fly up to cover her mouth in shock, well. You'll have to forgive her if a small gasp escapes anyway.
(But he's alive. That right now is the really important part.) ]
...Hi Law. [her voice is soft, once she finds it again.] We heard you could use some company.
[ whether it's because he's drowsy and out of it or not, Law seems confused by the announcement of two visitors. the only conclusion his mind seems to want to draw is that it'd be his dad and Dohalim, who come by every day (if they even leave, sometimes—although to be frank he's completely unaware of the passage of time or just how much he's been sleeping and missing out on what goes on around him), and why would they need to ask about that? not that he doesn't want to see them, but it'd be nondescript that he'd probably just shrug it off and let the medicine drag him back under and into deep sleep again.
but then there's movement and colors in his peripheral vision that aren't the usual, and a voice he hadn't expected to hear, and his eyes blink open again, surprised. "surprised" doesn't really show as clearly as it should, since he has a hard time focusing his gaze and seems to have a long load time before what he sees and what he thinks sync up, but it could be worse. he could be so out of it he doesn't recognize them at all. ]
Guys...? You're here.
[ that part isn't surprise. of course they're here. maybe it's relief. but he can tell by the look on Rinwell's face exactly what they think, and it's hard to be fully relieved to see them when he knows he has something to be sorry for. and better yet, that he kind of... isn't sorry about it. not exactly.
but still. he reaches out a little with his good arm, the other immobilized in bandages and a sling at his side. ]
Hey... yeah. That'd be nice. Don't worry, it looks worse than it is.
That's what Jaguar had told her in Coba. Morga had no reason to disbelieve him when he'd never outright lied to her before, especially given that the man himself had looked angry about the whole ordeal. Had it been anyone else she might've let it go and not think about it until she next saw whoever it was, but this wasn't the case. Law had nearly died. Nearly. There was a damn good chance the kid might not even be up for a house call, and yet... She thought it best to see for herself given three things:
One, she had yet to properly return to Tikal.
Two, if she had to spend another minute wearing what she'd picked up in Coba to replace her torn and bloodied clothes she'd lose her mind.
Three, Law was the only Old Guard left within the Jaguars and so far the only person she'd known before hand remaining within this world itself. Half-dead or otherwise, he was someone she knew. Someone capable.
Finding out exactly where he lived wasn't hard - the local leatherworker had pointed her in the right direction as she'd picked up her order. Keep going down that path, then go left when you come to a four-way crossroad. Down that road you'll see paint on the walls. Keep going past that 'til you hear the chickens.
She'd followed their instructions, but when he'd said chickens she expected two, maybe three. What she finds is more than that. Much more, albeit a majority of them were chicks. Taking care as to not boot one by accident, Morga maneuvers past the gate, through the yard, and stops at the door with a frown. She can feel one of them pecking at her cloak, but if it truly bothers her she makes no move to shoo the animal away. Instead, she raises her fist and knocks it against the door three times, each one with purpose.
[ Other than his close friends, Law hadn't made a point of announcing he was traveling just yet, but word has a way of traveling fast around here. He'd checked in at the coterie lodge, because even if he is about as sick of Jaguar's shit (and all the leaders, for that matter) as he can get he still intends to do things right and report in when he's supposed to. Their interaction had been stiff and brief. He'd be pretty surprised to hear the guy actually cared about what he'd been through.
Either way, he's not expecting anyone, least of all anyone who would bother to knock. His house had gathered a little dust in his absence, and... uh, a lot more chickens. Guess he didn't figure the age on some of those eggs, or something! Law sets aside the blankets he'd been draping over the bed, hobbling to the door to open it. He refuses to use crutches or wear a brace—his immobilized left arm, still bandaged tight and kept in a sling against his side is the most he'll put up with. The rest... he'll grin and bear it. Gotta work through it, that's how you heal up. Obviously.
Sucks to be without the pain meds, though. He almost feels like he's under the effects when he sees who's there, like he's totally out of it and seeing things. His eyes bug out of his head, stammering brokenly as if she's the hell of a sight and not him, with his faded old scars all over his face and everything else that's changed about him since November. Taller, broader, more beat the hell up. ]
(one day, whenever, because time is fake, the birds will be singing, there's peace in the land, and jinx plans a murder to happen not too late from today. murder requires pizzazz, after all, and for that, she needs some time... and to go away ever so often that connor won't find her absence something to be concerning.
so quiet, so tranquil, serene. she's found on law's windowsill, awaiting on another soul to make their way to the living room. a gun spins in her hand, only so she has something to do while she looks out to the view, giggling at the chickens.)
[ he really does have a peaceful spot amidst all the chaos here, doesn't he? his quaint little house, the inn under construction across the way, and a little farm full of peeping chicks and other various animals. it's as fitting for the type of guy Law is as it is a total contrast, equal parts "just trying to find peace" and "constantly ready to fuck shit up".
he just so happens to be by himself at the moment, and it's getting about time to eat so he's just come back with water from the well to make something, maybe a soup or something (he hasn't decided, but you probably need water for whatever it is he's gonna do). after he drops the bucket off he starts toward his room to get something and nearly has a fucking heart attack when he finds Jinx sitting there.
he "kljgfkhjsdkg"es out loud, but he doesn't jump at least. ]
[ Her writing is a little off, mostly because her dominant arm is bandaged up, and her writing (while still neat) is done in Rinwell's left hand. Slower, too. But still clearly hers. ]
I heard you're still in Coatepec too, like me. Can
[some scribbles, covering up incomplete words; spelling mistakes? or changing her mind about her wording? Hard to say..]
[ his writing, already not that great, is stilted, but it's not because he has an injury to contend with (for once). he just doesn't know what to say, and honestly is hesitant to respond at all. normally he's the first one to speak up, but now...
well, he seems to conveniently ignore most of what she actually wrote, but at least he's not ignoring the whole thing. ]

Law?! What happened?

Date: 2022-04-01 12:21 am (UTC)his face is perfectly fine, but he isn't exactly smiling back—he looks surprised to see her, then immediately remorseful, grimacing as she rushes over. he's... a mess. his left arm bandaged from shoulder to chest and completely immobilized, the rest of him wrapped up almost as much, black and blue all over. ]
I, u-uh... you kinda weren't supposed to see this...

From:DELIVERY let's say around april 1st/2nd/3rd forward datin this like a c h a m p
Date: 2022-03-31 02:31 am (UTC)Only Gladio didn't know that Law wasn't in Tikal at the moment of sending it.
See you soon!
u thought i wasn't going to RESPOND TO THIS
Date: 2022-04-01 12:31 am (UTC)What...?
Gladio... Gladio, did I miss your birthday...?

From:action; a few days AFTER DISASTER
Date: 2022-04-08 10:35 pm (UTC)They're tired visitors, honestly, their spiracorn ride having charged into town less than an hour ago.
That right now is the really important part.) ]
...Hi Law. [her voice is soft, once she finds it again.] We heard you could use some company.
no subject
Date: 2022-04-10 04:43 pm (UTC)but then there's movement and colors in his peripheral vision that aren't the usual, and a voice he hadn't expected to hear, and his eyes blink open again, surprised.
[ uh huh sure. ]

Date: 2022-05-01 04:36 am (UTC)That's what Jaguar had told her in Coba.
This isn't his dad calling. ]
no subject
Date: 2022-05-01 07:40 pm (UTC)Either way, he's not expecting anyone, least of all anyone who would bother to knock.
M-Morga!! Holy crap! Is it really you?!
